New governor to study emirate creation, Sanusi’s dethronement, says Kwankwaso

Must read

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that the incoming government in the state will study and take a position on the issues concerning the creation of four additional emirates in the state and the dethronement of Sanusi. In a viral video, Kwankwaso noted that while Allah will guide Governor-elect Abba Yusuf to take appropriate action on the controversial issue, there were more pressing issues bordering on the lives of the people than the appointment or dethronement of traditional title holders.

Sanusi, who became emir in the final term of Kwankwaso as governor, was dethroned by outgoing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who was deputy governor at the time the monarch was installed. Sanusi was removed on March 9, 2020, and also banished from Kano and sent to Loko, a remote community in Nasarawa State, while the expenses of the emirate under him were probed. Ganduje also split the emirate into five and appointed emirs to take charge of all the emirate councils.

Kwankwaso posited that the dethronement and balkanization of the emirate would be subjected to scrutiny by the government of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor-elect, when the time is due for that. He stated that they would advise the incoming governor to do the right thing, and they would not intervene in the issue of bringing or removing any emir. However, an opportunity has come, and they will sit down and see to the issue. They will look at what they are expected to do, he said.

Kwankwaso further prayed for God’s intervention to allow the incoming governor to handle things easily and take decisions in the best interest of the general public. When reporters sought clarification from the governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on what Kwankwaso meant and whether this could lead to the reinstatement of Sanusi, his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, said he was not aware of the story. Dawakin-Tofa also said he would not speak further since the story emanated from Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Governor-elect Abba Kabir Yusuf will study and take a position on the controversial issue of the creation of additional emirates in the state and the dethronement of Sanusi. While there are more pressing issues bordering on the lives of the people, the government will sit down and see to the issue, look at what they are expected to do, and take decisions in the best interest of the general public. May Allah guide the incoming governor to handle things easily.
