A young man from Plateau State has reportedly been lynched by a mob in Lagos after being accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with his employer’s wife.
The victim, identified only as Nengak, was in his early 20s and employed as a domestic aide in Victoria Garden City, one of Lagos’s affluent neighbourhoods.
According to Bitrus Idi, a close friend of the deceased, Nengak was responsible for multiple household duties, ranging from cooking and car maintenance to escorting the family’s children to school.
“He was hardworking, trustworthy, and diligent in everything he did. But unfortunately, this dedication made him the target of unwanted attention,” Idi said.
Reports indicate that the alleged affair had been ongoing for several months. Idi explained that the man of the house was often abroad for work, which provided the opportunity for the supposed relationship to develop.
“From what I gathered, his master’s wife started calling him into situations beyond his duties, and it spiralled from there,” Idi added.
The violent incident reportedly occurred after the husband installed CCTV cameras following rumours of the affair.
“On that day, the husband pretended he was travelling, but he had secretly arranged for local youths to be around. When Nengak was called to the bedroom, they caught him and brutally attacked him,” Idi said.
Nengak’s body remains at a Lagos mortuary as his family struggles to cover the costs of an autopsy.
Police have reportedly indicated that charges or formal investigations require payment of associated fees.
“We are left helpless. Nobody is speaking up for him, and his life was cut short unjustly,” Idi lamented.
This incident has sparked concerns over the growing pattern of mob justice in Lagos, highlighting the urgent need for legal enforcement and protection for domestic workers.
