The immediate past chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, has again found himself in police custody following a dramatic arrest carried out by a contingent of armed operatives who stormed his legal chambers.
The action, which stunned those present at the law firm, unfolded as officers blocked access to the premises while warning observers to remain at a distance.
Moreover, the tense atmosphere reportedly left staff and clients bewildered as the officers took control of the surroundings.
The incident occurred yesterday in Kano at his law office situated along Zaria Road. Witnesses recounted how the operatives arrived in large numbers with weapons visibly displayed, creating panic in the area.
A legal practitioner present at the scene, Barrister Ridwan Zakariyya, explained that Rimin-Gado expressed concern about the manner of his arrest.
“He repeatedly requested to know the grounds for the arrest or to be shown a warrant, yet the officers remained silent on that,” the lawyer said.
According to Zakariyya, the policemen disclosed that they were acting under directives from the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja and identified themselves as members of the Inspector-General of Police Squad.
He further alleged that his attempt to record the operation was met with aggression.
“One of them tried to seize my phone and warned that they could fire if we resisted,” he revealed.
Rimin-Gado was later transported to the Kano Police Command headquarters in Bompai, where he is believed to be held for questioning.
Moreover, this marks the second time in 2025 that the former anti-graft boss has been detained.
Earlier in January, he was arrested by the IGP Monitoring Unit over issues linked to the confiscation of property allegedly associated with a senior member of the All Progressives Congress. He was released shortly after that detention.
Efforts to obtain clarification from the Kano State Police Command have so far been unsuccessful.
Calls and messages to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, were unanswered at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the latest arrest is expected to stir fresh conversations about anti-corruption politics in Kano and the implications of law enforcement interventions in high-profile cases.
