The Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of the body of a 65-year-old man who died after falling into a deep well at Oke-Oga Atipe, Idi-Aga, Ibadan.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the agency, Moroof Akinwande.

According to Akinwande, the fire service received a distress call at exactly 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from one Mr Damola, reporting the incident.

He said, “Our officers, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that a man, approximately 65 years old, had fallen into the well. His body was later recovered and handed over to a team of policemen led by SP Idowu from the Agugu Police Division.”

Akinwande described the tragedy as unfortunate and urged residents to remain alert and adopt basic safety measures to avert similar incidents.

He also encouraged the public to pay attention to their mental well-being and seek help when experiencing emotional distress, while reminding residents of the need to install fire extinguishers in homes and public facilities, especially as the dry season intensifies.

The incident comes barely weeks after a 45-year-old man was recovered from a well at Odo-Ogbo, Oja-Agbe area of Iseyin in November.
