A fresh row has erupted online as the office of Senator Ned Nwoko raises alarm over what it describes as a coordinated wave of cyber harassment, smear campaigns, and defamatory content targeted at the Delta-born lawmaker.
According to a statement issued by his communications team, the attacks involve recurring videos and social media publications allegedly crafted to provoke public sympathy through “false persecution narratives” while concealing ulterior motives.
The release emphasised that Nwoko remains preoccupied with legislative duties, development projects, and private business interests, and does not intend to be drawn into what it called a “fabricated digital drama.”
However, the senator’s office insisted that when allegations escalate, the law, not sentiment, must serve as the proper channel for response.
“When false claims are weaponised, they threaten not just one individual but the integrity of our social norms,” the statement implied.
The camp also expressed worry over what it termed a culture of applauding deviant conduct and protecting individuals who misuse online platforms to harass others.
It warned that misinformation deployed as a tool against one figure today could easily be used against broader society tomorrow.
In response, Senator Nwoko has directed legal representatives to petition the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of Cyber Crime, seeking full investigation and prosecution of those involved in the alleged digital attacks.
The team disclosed that digital footprints would be traced to ensure accountability.
Moreover, the statement extended a caution to the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom regarding attempts to create “artificial drama around a stable family structure” to influence asylum claims.
It urged authorities abroad to rely on verifiable evidence rather than sensational content circulated to sway immigration decisions.
The communications team called on Nigerians to disregard misleading narratives and allow lawful processes to take their course, noting that the senator remains committed to his responsibilities and anchored on principles of due process and accountability.
