The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
AFRIPOST reports that Amaewhule moved to the APC on Friday alongside 15 other members of the House.
Speaking on the decision, Amaewhule cited persistent divisions within the PDP as the reason for the mass defection.
The move marks a major realignment in Rivers politics, signaling a shift in the state legislature ahead of upcoming political developments.
Earlier this year, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State Assembly.
Political watchers said the latest defection could further alter the balance of power in the state, with implications for governance and party dynamics.
