Armed men launched a deadly raid on Askawa village in the Ruwan Gizo district of Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday night, leaving two residents dead, including a community elder.
A security analyst, Bakatsine, disclosed the incident in a post on X on Thursday, noting that the attackers also whisked away five members of a family during the invasion.
“Yesterday night, armed bandits attack Askawa village in Ruwan Gizo district, Talata-Mafara LGA, Zamfara State. They killed two residents, including a community elder, while five family members were abducted.
“The incident adds to the growing pattern of rural communities facing repeated raids with little protection,” Bakatsine wrote.
The latest incident adds to the worsening insecurity in parts of Zamfara where communities have suffered recurring assaults from armed groups.
Residents said the attackers operated freely for several hours, forcing many villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Security agencies have yet to release an official statement on the attack.
