Yobe State Police Command has introduced a fresh wave of security measures aimed at safeguarding schools, public facilities, and vulnerable communities, signalling a renewed push to curb rising threats across the state.
The directive followed a closed-door strategy session led by Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado, who met with senior officers, tactical heads, and departmental leaders to refine emergency responses and improve coordination.
CP Ado urged divisional heads to deepen local engagement and work more closely with traditional authorities, vigilante groups, and community watch networks.
He described community cooperation as “a crucial buffer against emerging security risks,” adding that the Command would “pursue every responsible strategy to keep learning environments safe.”
Moreover, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, noted in a statement that the new plan places strong emphasis on intelligence-sharing, early-warning systems, and stronger ties with other security formations.
He explained that these elements would serve as the backbone of the Command’s new preventive measures.
Security presence is also expected to increase significantly. CP Ado has instructed officers to intensify patrols, expand night deployments, and activate rapid-response teams across major routes and at-risk zones.
“Our priority is to respond faster and act decisively whenever there is a hint of danger,” a senior officer at the meeting said.
Residents have been encouraged to maintain vigilance and support ongoing operations with credible information.
CP Ado appealed to the public to remain cooperative, stressing that “security succeeds when communities take ownership of peace and actively report suspicious activities.”
Meanwhile, the state government has already taken precautionary steps to protect students.
Governor Mai Mala Buni recently ordered the temporary shutdown of all boarding schools as a preemptive move to prevent student abductions.
The renewed police measures, combined with government action, reflect Yobe’s broader effort to strengthen public safety at a time when schools and rural communities face heightened security threats.
