The Bauchi State Police Command has disrupted a major illegal drug supply chain after apprehending a suspected trafficker allegedly responsible for distributing harmful narcotics across local markets.

The bust, according to authorities, marks a significant step in tackling the rising circulation of illicit substances in the state.

The suspect, identified as Ogbu Simon, was reportedly trailed following intelligence from a vigilant resident who raised an alarm after observing suspicious movements linked to a shop believed to be used as a cover for drug distribution.

Police sources confirmed that a coordinated operation carried out by detectives in collaboration with the Operation Restore Peace team resulted in the discovery of a large haul of narcotic substances.

Officers recovered 17,500 sachets of Tramadol and 487 packs of Diazepam, street-named “Yellow Voice,” all valued at about ₦12.2 million.

The drugs were allegedly transported from Onitsha and circulated to buyers in Ningi and neighbouring communities.

Speaking on the breakthrough, the spokesperson for the Bauchi Police Command, CSP Mohammed Wakil, noted that the arrest reflects the Command’s renewed strategy toward dismantling networks that profit from illegal drugs.

“This operation shows what can be achieved when citizens work closely with security agencies.

“Drug trafficking has destroyed many lives and we remain committed to cutting off the supply,” Wakil said.

Authorities revealed that the suspect admitted during interrogation that he had been supplying multiple markets both within and outside Bauchi State, raising concerns about the scale of the drug distribution ring.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed that the war against illicit drugs remains a priority for his administration.

“The Command will not relent in pursuing those who insist on using drugs as a business venture at the expense of our youths’ future.

“Criminality must not be allowed to thrive in any community,” he stated, appealing for stronger collaboration from residents.

Meanwhile, the seized substances and the suspect are expected to be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Efforts to combat illegal drug trade continue across Nigeria as security agencies intensify crackdowns on distribution networks and clandestine supply routes, viewed as key drivers of addiction, insecurity, and violent crime.
