Terrorists contact family after Sokoto wedding abduction

Must read

Suspected terrorists who kidnapped a bride and several wedding guests in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, have reached out to the victims’ families two days after the attack but without making any ransom demand.

The father of the bride, Malam Umaru Chacho, told journalists in the community that the abductors called the family only to insist on speaking with the village’s traditional ruler.

“when they called they said we should connect them with the traditional ruler of the town. We refused and asked them to speak to us instead, but they declined, insisting that they wanted to speak with our traditional ruler,” he said.

Chacho revealed that 13 people were taken during the raid, including 11 females and two males, while several others were injured.

He added that one relative who attempted to resist the attackers was shot and left with life-threatening injuries.

According to him, the community has endured years of unrelenting violence, with more than 30 residents reportedly killed in Chacho village over the last five years due to repeated bandit assaults.
