Police authorities in Borno State have praised officers in the Mallamfatori Division after they successfully recovered gold valuables reportedly buried by a resident during a Boko Haram invasion 15 years ago.

The woman, who had fled Mallamfatori at the height of insurgency attacks, returned to the community recently and approached the police for help in locating items she had concealed in the ground while escaping.

According to the state command, officers carried out a thorough search and retrieved 22cc of gold, valued at approximately N20 million, and an additional gold bracelet with a chain, estimated at N3.6 million.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, described the recovery as a telling example of professionalism and integrity within the command.

He noted that the conduct of the DPO and his team demonstrated the core principles that the Nigeria Police Force continues to stand for.

“These officers showed honesty and commitment in handling a sensitive task, and their efforts further strengthen public trust in our work,” he said.

The Commissioner restated the commitment of the command to protecting lives and property while encouraging residents to maintain strong cooperation with security agencies as efforts to improve safety across Borno continue.
