Musa’s nomination most popular since Tinubu assumed office – FGWRC

Must read

The nomination of retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu has received commendation from the First Green White Resources Centre (FGWRC), a non-governmental organisation and organisers of Nigeria’s Pride Awards.

Reacting to the development on Tuesday, FGWRC’s Founder and CEO, Bonaventure Phillips Melah, described Musa’s nomination as “the most popular and acceptable” since President Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

He urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process.

Melah said the announcement by the President’s Senior Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Information, Bayo Onanuga, sparked excitement and jubilation across social media platforms, noting that the endorsement of Musa transcends political, ethnic and religious lines.

He recalled that the former Chief of Defence Staff was honoured with the FGWRC’s ‘Shield of the Nation’ Award in September 2025, just days before leaving active military service, in recognition of his patriotism, bravery and commitment to national security.

“It is with the highest sense of patriotism and pride in Nigeria that we received the news of General Christopher Gwabin Musa’s nomination as Minister of Defence,” the statement partly read.

“His appointment is a testimony that President Tinubu is serious about tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminalities nationwide.”

FGWRC highlighted Musa’s record of fostering healthy working relationships with service chiefs, the Office of the NSA, the Inspector-General of Police, the DSS and other security agencies, while ensuring coordinated military and security operations across the country.

The organisation urged the Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, to confirm the nomination without delay, saying the move would allow General Musa, OFR (rtd), to take up his new role and continue his distinguished service to the nation.
