Violence erupted in Sujata town, Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State, when armed assailants stormed the residence of a local police officer, leaving one officer dead and another critically injured.
The attack, which occurred around midnight on Monday, targeted officers on duty at the home of the Police Divisional Officer.
Police Constable Nura Garba Jahun succumbed to his injuries at Jahun General Hospital, while his colleague received emergency treatment and remains hospitalised.
Malam Garba Jahun, father of the slain officer, expressed shock over the incident. “We don’t know why this happened.
No one has given us any explanation, and the police authorities have not briefed me,” he said. He confirmed that his son’s burial was conducted following Islamic rites.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Jigawa State Police Command were ongoing. Spokesman SP Lawan Shi’isu Adam said he had not yet received official details but promised to provide an update to the press once information became available.
The attack has sparked concern in the local community, raising questions about security measures for law enforcement personnel in the region. Residents called for urgent action to prevent a recurrence of such violent incidents.
