Gov Adeleke quits PDP over leadership crisis

Must read

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, ending his long association with the platform that brought him to office.

Adeleke confirmed his resignation in a letter addressed to party officials in his ward, stating that his decision was compelled by what he described as a deepening leadership crisis that has crippled the party at the national level. His exit was dated November 4.

According to the governor, the internal turmoil within the PDP has made it difficult for him to remain aligned with the party’s structure.

He noted that the unresolved disputes at the national headquarters had filtered down to state chapters, creating uncertainty ahead of critical electoral timelines.

Party tensions in Osun had escalated recently after the state chapter postponed its governorship primary over unresolved disputes within the national hierarchy.

The development raised concerns about the party’s ability to field a candidate for the 2026 election.

Adeleke’s departure is expected to reshape Osun’s political landscape, as discussions have already intensified over his likely move to a new political platform.

His allies within the state government hinted that the governor will make a formal announcement about his next political direction in the coming days.

Political observers say his resignation could trigger further alignments and realignments ahead of the next election cycle, especially among aspirants preparing to test their strength in the state.

Adeleke, who rose from the Senate to the governorship on the back of the PDP, maintained that his decision was taken “in the interest of stability and clarity” as Osun approaches another heated political season.
