Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a coordinated assault on Malari community in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Monday, abducting two residents.
It was gathered that the attackers arrived on motorcycles around midnight and operated for about 30 minutes before men of the Borno State Police crack team intervened, preventing the insurgents from taking over the town entirely.
Confirming the incident, the Borno Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, stated that no life was lost during the gunfire exchange between security operatives and the attackers.
Residents who spoke with PUNCH Online described the raid as “coordinated,” adding that many fled their homes before security forces arrived.
Some locals suggested the number of kidnapped victims could be higher, saying the insurgents passed through residential homes during the attack, though this could not be independently verified.
The abduction comes days after troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued 12 girls who had been kidnapped on their family farms in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army stated on its official Facebook page that the victims were freed on Saturday, 29 November, following a swift, intelligence-led operation.
The rescued girls, aged between 15 and 18, included Fatima Shaibu, Fatima Umaru, Hauwa Abubakar, Saliha Muhammed, Sadiya Umaru, Amira Babel, Zara Adamu, Nana Shaibu, Zainab Musa, Zainab Muhammed, Jamila Saidu, and Hauwa Hamidu.
