No fewer than six real estate marketers from Lagos have been abducted during a land inspection exercise in Ogun State.
The victims were said to be on a visit to their company’s site at Oyebola village in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area when they were seized by gunmen.
Sources told DAILY POST that the marketers were led into the bush by the assailants shortly after arriving at the location for assessment.
Confirming the development on Sunday night, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, said the incident occurred on Friday during an inspection tour facilitated by the company.
According to him, “So, they brought some marketers from Lagos to come and see the land so that they can have the requisite information to market the land for the members of the public who are interested.
“It was during their visit to this land that the six people were abducted. The command had been on it since, and we shall definitely ensure that these people regain their freedom.”
Ogunlowo assured residents that the command had launched a full-scale investigation, adding that efforts were underway to rescue the victims unharmed.
The abduction adds to the rising wave of insecurity in the South, which has continued to intensify calls for the establishment of state police across the region.
At a meeting earlier in the week, Southern governors again pressed for decentralised policing, insisting that allowing states to take charge of local security would curb the growing threats to lives and property.
Their renewed demand followed multiple kidnapping incidents nationwide, including the abduction of over 300 students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, 25 girls from a school in Kebbi State, and 38 worshippers taken from a church in Kwara State.
