BREAKING: Northern Govs, others hold emergency security meeting in Kaduna

Must read

Northern governors and traditional rulers on Monday converged on Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, for an emergency meeting amid rising insecurity across the region.

The session, holding under the auspices of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council, is examining the spike in banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and recurring farmer-herder clashes that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands.

The meeting, which is behind closed doors, is being jointly chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, on behalf of the traditional institution.

Discussions are said to be focused almost entirely on the worsening security situation in the North.

AFRIPOST reports that insecurity in the northern part of the country has heightened in the last couple of weeks.

Recall that at least 24 schoolgirls were abducted by bandits in Kebbi State.

However, they reportedly regained their freedom a few days after their abduction.

Similarly, bandits whisked away no fewer than 200 school children from a Catholic private school in Niger State, out of which 50 reportedly escaped and have been reunited with their families.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to guide coordinated regional strategies aimed at restoring peace and curbing violent criminal activities.
