The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has debunked a viral claim suggesting that the party has quietly selected its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun election, describing the report as an invention of online mischief-makers.
The rumour had spread across several social media platforms, alleging that the party had already settled for a preferred aspirant long before the official nomination process. However, ADC leadership dismissed the claim as entirely baseless.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said in a statement that ADC had already released the date for its Osun governorship primaries, noting that the party remains committed to a transparent and competitive process.
Abdullahi explained that the so-called announcement “originated from unverified posts and publications” and did not reflect any official position of the party.
He stressed that no individual could be recognised as a candidate until the primaries are duly conducted.
He added, “Our party does not crown ghost candidates. Anyone circulating such claims is simply trying to mislead the public.”
Moreover, the ADC reassured aspirants that the nomination process would be free, fair, and open to all.
The party urged the public to disregard the false report and rely only on verified statements from authorised channels.
According to Abdullahi, ADC “remains fully committed to internal democracy,” and no shortcut or backdoor endorsement will replace the primary election process as the Osun 2026 race approaches.
