A violent overnight assault on a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Kebbi State has left three officers dead, intensifying fears over the growing influence of armed groups in the northwest.
Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident on Friday through his X page, explaining that the attack occurred late Thursday in Bakin Ruwa, a settlement in Bagudu Local Government Area.
He also posted a video showing the grim aftermath, including charred remains of a vehicle and debris scattered around the checkpoint.
According to his account, the assailants, believed to be members of the Lakurawa gang, stormed the checkpoint under the cover of darkness, overwhelming the officers on duty.
They reportedly killed three personnel, torched an NIS patrol vehicle, and destroyed the makeshift security shelter.
A resident who witnessed the chaos from a distance described the scene as deeply unsettling through the video uploaded by Bakatsine.
“We heard bursts of gunfire for several minutes,” he said. “By the time people came out at dawn, the place had been completely wrecked.”
Meanwhile, local authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but community members say the attack has renewed calls for stronger security presence along the Bagudu border corridor, which has increasingly faced incursions from armed groups.
AFRIPOST reports that the incident shows the persistent security challenges confronting frontier communities in northern Nigeria, where government agencies stationed in remote outposts remain exposed to frequent attacks.
