BREAKING: EFCC summons Malami

Must read

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has acknowledged receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, describing it as a routine part of institutional accountability and a process he is prepared to face without resistance.

Malami disclosed the development through a personal update on his social media page, stressing that the invitation did not come as a surprise and that he intends to engage the investigators in what he called “a clarifying exercise for the sake of transparency”.

He maintained that his long years in public office were shaped by what he described as an unwavering commitment to ethical governance, insisting that he had no reservations about responding to the commission’s request.

The former minister said, “I have always believed that public officials must be willing to answer questions whenever required. This invitation aligns with that belief, and I will honour it accordingly.”

Furthermore, he noted that integrity and accountability had guided his actions while serving in government, adding that scrutiny is an expected part of democratic institutions.

“My record speaks for itself,” he said. “Anyone who has followed my work over the years knows that I have tried to uphold values that strengthen public trust.”

Malami, who served as the nation’s chief law officer from 2015 to 2023 under the Buhari administration, assured Nigerians that he would provide updates as the process unfolds.

He hinted that the invitation offers an opportunity for what he referred to as “constructive engagement with an institution performing its statutory duties”.

He concluded by urging the public to avoid speculation, emphasising that due process must take its course and that he remains available to assist investigators as required.

Moreover, analysts observe that the invitation signals the EFCC’s continued attention to high-profile matters, a development likely to shape public discourse in the coming days.
