Nigeria has lost one of its most respected Islamic scholars, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 98.
Sheikh Bauchi, widely recognised as a leading figure of the Tijjaniyya Islamic order, devoted his life to religious education and spiritual guidance.
He established numerous Qur’anic schools and centres for Islamic learning, influencing generations of students across Nigeria and West Africa.
His family confirmed that he died peacefully after a prolonged illness. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Throughout his life, Sheikh Bauchi worked to integrate traditional Qur’anic education with broader community development initiatives.
His efforts in promoting literacy, moral guidance, and peaceful coexistence earned him admiration across religious and social circles.
