Fresh attacks by bandits in Niger State have left residents in fear after gunmen abducted 24 people, including a pregnant woman, and brutalised a blind man in separate raids within the same local government area.
As reported by Vanguard, the latest assault unfolded on Wednesday in Palaita community, Erena Local Government Area, where armed men reportedly invaded a farmland as labourers were busy harvesting crops.
Witnesses told reporters that the intruders rounded up the farm workers and marched them into the bush. Among those taken was a heavily pregnant woman.
In a separate attack nearby, the criminals descended on another settlement and allegedly severed the arm of a blind man after he failed to meet their demands. Residents said the attackers cut off the arm of a blind man after he allegedly failed to “cooperate” with their demands.
The incidents have sparked fresh anxiety across communities in the area, with locals warning that the renewed wave of violence has become unbearable.
Community leaders have again appealed for swift government action, insisting that security agencies must move decisively to stem the worsening insecurity in the state.
