Must read

A kidnapped Anglican cleric in Kaduna State, Venerable Edwin Achi, has died while in the custody of his abductors, deepening concerns over rising insecurity in the region.

Venerable Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, was abducted alongside his wife and daughter when armed men invaded their residence in Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, on October 28, 2025.

After the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly demanded N600 million to secure their release.

Achi, who hailed from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, remained in captivity as negotiations stalled.

The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna confirmed his death in a statement expressing grief over the loss.

It prayed for the safe return of his wife and daughter who are still being held.

“With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, the Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, announces the passing unto glory of The Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero.

“Ven. Edwin Achi, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October, 2025, has been confirmed dead,” it said.

The Diocese described his passing as a devastating blow to the church community and to all who had been touched by his ministry.

Despite confirmation of Achi’s death, the kidnappers have refused to soften their stance or adjust their ransom demand, leaving his wife and daughter still in danger.
