ADC warns against negotiating with bandits, calls for reopening of schools

Must read

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned the Federal Government against negotiating with insurgents as a strategy to tackle the rising wave of kidnappings in Nigeria.

The party commended the families and communities whose loved ones were recently freed, including worshippers abducted from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke-Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State, and schoolchildren taken from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State.

While welcoming their release, ADC expressed concern over the unclear circumstances surrounding how the victims were freed, questioning the conflicting accounts from government officials.

The party criticised remarks suggesting that abductors were released after being “asked nicely” or surrendered voluntarily, stressing that such actions could encourage further attacks and undermine justice for the victims.

ADC also highlighted the resurgence of kidnappings, citing the abduction of 11 more people in Isaac Community, Ekiti Local Government Area, just a day after churchgoers were released.

The party warned that negotiating with bandits only fuels the cycle of terror.

The party further condemned the closure of 47 federal schools in response to the kidnappings, calling it a signal of weakness that empowers terrorists instead of protecting children.

ADC urged the government to deploy security forces to safeguard schools and ensure students can resume classes safely.

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, stressed that the government must act decisively to secure all abducted children, restore confidence in public institutions, and show that Nigeria will not bow to terror.
