Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has accused the Niger State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, of not providing full details on last Friday’s abduction of students in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
Onanuga made the allegation on Monday during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme.
He said the CAN chairman was “playing games” with the matter and frustrating efforts to determine the actual number of abducted students.
The presidential aide dismissed Yohanna’s claim that 51 students had been rescued, arguing that the students were never abducted.
He added that the government remained unsure of how many children were taken, blaming the confusion on limited cooperation from school officials and religious leaders.
He said, “I learnt when the bandits came in the night, the students were running helter-skelter and some of them merely ran back to their homes.”
According to him, security agencies are still trying to obtain a clear picture of the incident, leaving authorities “in the dark” as the situation unfolds.
