Insecurity: Tinubu losing sleep over Nigeria’s challenges — Orji Kalu

Must read

Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, says President Bola Tinubu is enduring sleepless nights as he confronts the country’s worsening security and economic challenges.

Kalu, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television, said Nigeria is grappling with a manpower crisis, especially within the police force, as many citizens are unwilling to enlist.

He acknowledged that the nation is critically under-policed but argued that recruitment efforts by the government have not yielded the expected results because people remain hesitant about joining the force.

He, however, appealed for patience, insisting that the president has sacrificed sleep in order to find lasting solutions to the country’s problems.

The Abia senator said, “It’s a problem of manpower. This is a population of almost 300 million people. We are not 250 million.”

Responding to questions about the alleged slow pace of reforms under the Tinubu administration and the All Progressives Congress, Kalu said the government cannot compel citizens to join the police.

He added, “No, let me tell you, we cannot force anybody to join the Nigeria Police Force.

“We have advertised. Did you apply? So we are doing everything possible.

“President Tinubu is having sleepless nights every day about Nigeria, and I can assure you that things will get better.”
