Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress in a development that reshapes early political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku confirmed the move in a post on X, where he shared photos of himself receiving his ADC membership card and a customised “Waziri 01” jersey.
The registration, which held in Yola, Adamawa State, drew a crowd of supporters, party leaders and community figures who gathered to witness the event.
In the images posted online, Atiku is seen lifting his membership form as supporters recorded the moment with their phones.
“It’s official. – AA,” he wrote, putting an end to weeks of speculation about his political direction after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party earlier this year.
The development follows hints from close associates that he would seal his membership during his birthday visit to the state, which also featured engagement with local groups.
