Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has confirmed the safe release of 38 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, who were abducted during a violent raid on the church.
The victims regained their freedom on Sunday following coordinated efforts between state authorities and federal security agencies.
Governor AbdulRazaq described the rescue as the result of “relentless collaboration among all security stakeholders.”
According to a statement released on Sunday, November 23, 2025, by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, AbdulRazaq credited President Bola Tinubu’s direct involvement for the operation’s success, revealing that the President postponed a G20 summit trip to South Africa to prioritise security concerns in Kwara and Kebbi states.
“President Tinubu personally ensured that security measures were intensified to secure the release of the abducted worshippers,” AbdulRazaq said in the state statement.
Additional tactical teams from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Intelligence Agency were deployed to Kwara on the President’s instructions, boosting the rescue effort.
Governor AbdulRazaq also acknowledged the role of local community leaders, religious organisations, and residents who supported security operations.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had earlier condemned the attack, calling it “heartbreaking and deeply saddening.”
The assault, which took place during a prayer session, reportedly resulted in several deaths and left the church community traumatised, highlighting ongoing security challenges in vulnerable areas.
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasised that the state government remains committed to preventing further attacks, urging residents to collaborate with security agencies.
“We will continue to strengthen our security network to ensure the safety of every citizen,” he stated.
