Former House of Representatives member Zakari Mohammed has appealed to the United States to deploy advanced technology to identify terrorist hideouts in Nigeria and launch targeted missile strikes to eliminate them.
Mohammed made the call on Friday during an appearance on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme.
He stressed that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation but noted that any cooperation with the US on counterterrorism should be firmly collaborative and geared toward ending rising attacks.
According to him, “I know from their satellites and the sophistry of equipments they have, they know where these terrorists are in our forest. Without physical intervention, technology can be deployed in blowing up these terrorists. It is a welcomed development.”
He argued that modern warfare has moved beyond ground combat, insisting that long-range missile systems could help Nigeria weaken insurgent camps across the country.
Mohammed also referenced the recent abduction of 215 pupils and 12 teachers in Niger and expressed concern over intelligence breaches within the security system.
The former lawmaker lamented the killing of a Brigadier-General in the field, saying such losses should trigger accountability within the armed forces, adding, “In a sane country we should be getting reports by now that heads should row so that it should serve as detergent to others.”
