The Benue State Police Command has rescued six children allegedly being trafficked from Plateau State to Anambra.
Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet said the victims, aged seven to nine, were taken from Divine Peace and Grace Orphanage in Jos.
In a statement on Friday, Edet confirmed that three women were arrested while transporting the children along the Orokam–Enugu Road.
The rescued children were identified as Amanda Chukwujekwu (8), Chioma Maduagwu (8), Oyechegi Kosisochukwu (9), Okonkwo Odinaka Chukwu (9), Arinze Chukwu (7), and Oluchukwu Esther (9).
The statement read partly: “On 20th November 2025, at about 1705hrs, operatives on patrol along the Orokam–Enugu Road intercepted a suspicious vehicle and arrested three female suspects—one Mrs Monica Okonkwo, 57 years; one Nkiru Nwosu, 55 years; and one Oyechele Francisca, 57 years, all of Umude Oka Dunukofia, Anambra State.”
It added that “the children were taken from Divine Peace and Grace Orphanage, Jos, Plateau State, under questionable circumstances.”
Edet noted that the children are now under protective care, while the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
He also disclosed that two suspects linked to stolen motorcycles were lynched by a mob along George Akume Way, Makurdi, before police arrived.
Recovered items from the scene included 11 motorcycles, 47 seats, fuel tanks, charms, mattresses, and a single-barrel firearm.
Edet said Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari condemned mob justice, warning that such actions obstruct investigations and violate human rights.
