Police operatives in Ogun State have apprehended a commercial motorcyclist, Godonu Lowe, for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to flee Ilaro with her body stuffed inside a sack.
The suspect was stopped on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search, where officers became suspicious of a sack fastened to the back of his motorcycle.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, noting that the arrest followed actionable intelligence received at about 1:05 p.m.
She explained that the victim’s corpse showed visible injuries, including bleeding around the neck, and that a blood-stained cutlass believed to have been used in the attack was recovered.
According to her, “On Wednesday, 19th November 2025, at about 1305hrs, the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received credible information that a suspected felon, Godonu Lowe ‘m’ of Omolende Village via Idogo, was transporting the corpse of an unknown woman on a motorcycle in an attempt to escape from the community.
“Acting swiftly, police operatives intercepted the suspect and a sack tied to the back of his motorcycle was untied. The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later identified as his wife.
“The body bore marks of violence, bleeding around the neck, suggesting foul play. A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the crime scene.”
Odutola added that the suspect has been detained, while the deceased’s remains have been taken to the State Morgue in Ilaro for autopsy.
She further quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, as praising the anonymous informant and urging residents to continue supplying prompt and credible information capable of aiding crime prevention and investigation.
