Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has greenlit the issuance of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 1,600 newly hired watchmen, who will be deployed across secondary schools in the state.
Announcing the development on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, described the move as a strategic effort to enhance safety and discipline within public schools.
Governor Yusuf emphasised that a secure learning environment is crucial for both students and staff, noting, “Education cannot flourish where safety is compromised.
“These watchmen will be the first line of defence in protecting our schools and ensuring uninterrupted academic activities.”
The new recruits are expected to monitor school premises, deter unauthorised access, and support the smooth operation of academic programs, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to stability and order in education.
The governor also lauded the education ministry and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board for their dedication to implementing government policies.
“Their partnership has been vital in ensuring that this initiative reaches the schools effectively,” he added.
