Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday arrived in Kebbi State as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to rescue students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

His aircraft touched down at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, where he was received by senior state officials.

Shettima is expected to meet with government authorities, families of the abducted schoolgirls, and security operatives handling the situation.

The Vice President is on the visit at the directive of President Bola Tinubu and will deliver the President’s message to the state while also receiving a detailed briefing on the rescue operations for onward transmission to the Presidency.

Authorities said the attack on the school resulted in the death of the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly killed while attempting to stop the bandits from abducting the girls.

Meanwhile, the police said on Monday that a combined tactical team was deployed to comb the forests in a bid to rescue the girls.

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attack and commiserated with the families of those affected.

He also postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg in South Africa and Luanda, Angola, to attend the 20th G20 Summit of leaders and the 7th AU-EU Summit, respectively.
