The Nigeria Police on Wednesday sealed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, following renewed tension between the party’s rival factions.
The action came less than 24 hours after a confrontation between the Saminu Turaki-led faction and members loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Pandemonium broke out at the facility on Tuesday when the Saminu Turaki-led faction clashed with members loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
During the fracas, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and his Bauchi counterpart, Bala Mohammed, were reportedly teargassed as security operatives struggled to restore order.
A visit to the secretariat on Wednesday showed that the police had mounted barbed wire across the entrance, effectively preventing access to the building.
None of the leaders of the two contending factions was seen at the premises, while only a few policemen were on duty.
However, supporters of the faction led by Kabiru Turaki opposed the decision of the police to barricade the premises.
