US lawmaker, Moore condemns kidnap of Kebbi schoolgirls

Must read

A member of the United States Congress, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has expressed concern over the abduction of schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Gunmen had invaded the school in the early hours of Monday, killing the Vice Principal before whisking away about 25 students.

The attack adds to the recurring assaults on educational institutions by armed groups operating across the North.

Moore, in a post on his X handle, said the incident took place in a Christian-dominated community and urged the Nigerian authorities to confront what he described as persistent violence targeting Christians.

He wrote, “Please join me in praying for the 25 girls who have been kidnapped and for the repose of the soul of their vice principal who was killed.

“While we don’t have all the details on this horrific attack, we know that the attack occurred in a Christian enclave in Northern Nigeria.

“The Nigerian government must do more to end the rampant violence”.

The U.S. lawmaker maintained that the pattern of attacks reinforces concerns about growing insecurity and the safety of vulnerable groups in affected states.
