Our nation is bleeding — Obi condemns Kebbi, Zamfara attacks

Must read

Peter Obi has sharply criticised the escalating violence in Nigeria following fresh attacks in Kebbi and Zamfara States, warning that the country is slipping into a level of insecurity no society should endure.

Obi, who posted his reaction on his X page on Monday from Monaco, said he was devastated by reports that bandits stormed Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi, abducting several female students and killing a staff member.

He noted that the assault mirrored another brutal raid in Fegin Baza, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara, where three people were killed and about 64 villagers kidnapped.

He described the incidents as painful reminders of widespread vulnerability across the North-West, stressing that entire communities now live in constant fear as terrorists steadily overrun rural spaces.

“Families are being torn apart, schools are no longer safe, and innocent lives continue to be destroyed.

“This is not the Nigeria we should accept,” he wrote, extending condolences to the affected families, the governments of Kebbi and Zamfara States, and communities confronting these fresh tragedies.

Obi urged swift and decisive action from the federal and state governments, calling for a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture.

He emphasised that the safe rescue of the abducted girls must be treated as an urgent national priority.

“Our children must never be left at the mercy of terrorists,” he noted, adding that the country must show the political will to protect its most vulnerable citizens.

He prayed for the repose of the slain staff member and asked God to comfort grieving families while strengthening security agencies working to bring the kidnapped victims home.

According to him, Nigeria must confront its security crisis with honesty and resolve because, in his words, “our nation is bleeding,” and citizens deserve a country where peace and safety are not luxuries but guarantees.

Further updates on rescue operations and security responses are expected as pressure mounts on authorities to take decisive action.w
