Officer Yerima evades mysterious pursuers days after confrontation with FCTA authorities

Must read

A Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, who was recently involved in a controversial encounter with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, narrowly escaped what appeared to be an attempted tailing by unknown individuals in Abuja on Sunday night.

According to Vanguard, witnesses familiar with the incident said two unmarked Hilux vehicles, lacking number plates or security identifiers, began following the officer shortly after he left the NIPCO filling station along the Kubwa Expressway.

The pursuit reportedly continued until Gado Nasco Way, raising concerns about the men’s intentions.

Furthermore, the aforementioned publication said security sources disclosed that Yerima managed to outmanoeuvre the vehicles through what they described as “decisive and calculated driving,” allowing him to escape before contacting the appropriate authorities.

The episode occurred around 6:30 p.m. and is now under investigation. A senior source, who insisted on anonymity, said officials are approaching the matter with caution, noting that critical details cannot yet be disclosed.

“The investigation is delicate. We are taking our time to avoid jeopardising any leads,” the official said.

Yerima’s name gained national attention after he clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during a heated interaction in Abuja.

The confrontation quickly spread across social platforms, fueling debates about power, accountability, and military-civil relations.

Moreover, the tension surrounding the matter prompted intervention from the Presidency.

As a result, demolition equipment deployed to the disputed land in Gaduwa District was reportedly withdrawn pending further directives.

AFRIPOST reports that this latest development adds a new layer to an already sensitive national issue, hinting at deeper systemic frictions that may shape conversations around security and governance in the coming days.
