JUST IN: PDP faction led by Wike schedules critical meetings amid party rift

Must read

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to hold its Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Council (NEC) meetings on Tuesday, November 18.

The notice, signed by the factional National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, confirmed that both meetings will take place at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

“Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed,” Anyanwu emphasised.

AFRIPOST reports that this move comes on the heels of a separate PDP faction, loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, holding its national convention last Saturday.

The convention, overseen by former acting national chairman Umar Damagum, made headlines by expelling Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, and Dan Orbih, among others.

In addition, the Makinde-aligned faction dissolved the State Working Committees in Abia, Imo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states, further intensifying internal party tensions.

The convention drew the presence of several governors, including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), alongside other senior party officials.

However, both Fintiri and Mutfwang later distanced themselves from the controversial expulsions.

Meanwhile, political analysts view the escalating conflict as the latest chapter in the ongoing power struggle between Wike and the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.

The upcoming BoT and NEC meetings are expected to set the tone for the faction’s next strategic moves within the party.
