Again, officer Yerima, police clash on Abuja highway

Must read

A fresh confrontation between naval officer Lt. A.M. Yerima and police operatives has stirred tension once more, after both sides exchanged sharp accusations during a heated stop-and-search encounter on a busy Abuja highway.

The latest clash, which unfolded in front of commuters, added a new layer to Yerima’s growing public profile as clashes involving him continue to draw national attention.

According to officers at the scene, the trouble began after Yerima was flagged down for allegedly driving with a concealed number plate.

One of the policemen insisted that the officer failed to properly identify himself, sparking an argument that quickly escalated.

“We stopped him because his plate number was covered,” a police sergeant explained. “He claimed he was an officer, but when we asked him to identify himself, he couldn’t.

“Instead, he began making a video of us and started insulting people. That behaviour is unacceptable.”

Yerima, however, pushed back at the allegations. He accused the officers of mishandling the situation and failing to follow proper procedure during the stop.

“Do you now accept that what you did is wrong?” Yerima asked in frustration during the confrontation.

“You are the ones doing the wrong things. You asked for an ID, and before I even responded fully, you started raising your voices. That’s not how professionals behave.”

In a video shared online and seen by AFRIPOST, the exchange lasted several minutes, with both sides refusing to back down.

Meanwhile, the incident adds to ongoing conversations about policing culture, highway checks, and civil-security interactions in Abuja.

Moreover, Yerima’s recurring public clashes have fueled debate about professionalism among both security agencies and uniformed officers interacting outside official assignments.

There has been no official statement yet from either the Nigeria Police Force or the Nigerian Navy regarding this latest episode.

However, with videos of the scene already circulating online, further scrutiny appears inevitable.

The confrontation further shows a lingering tension on Nigerian roads: a struggle over authority, procedure, and respect, all playing out under the watchful gaze of an increasingly vocal public.
