Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have seized a former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Abubakar Sise.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the armed men invaded the compound, shooting repeatedly into the air to frighten residents before gaining access to their target.
When contacted yesterday, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said he was yet to receive details of the incident but promised to investigate.
According to locals, the kidnappers intercepted one of Sise’s sons who was returning home late at night. They were said to have forced him at gunpoint to call his father, who opened the door, after which the assailants whisked him away, sparing other family members.
By daybreak, spent shells and a few live rounds were found around the compound, suggesting that several shots were fired to ward off any resistance.
Residents described the operation as swift and frightening, noting that the gunmen left the scene within minutes.
The local vigilante group in Boriya was immediately alerted and has begun combing nearby bush paths in search of the attackers and to secure the victim’s release.
As at press time, Sise’s whereabouts were still unknown.
