A tense calm has settled over Boriya–Shiya Ward after armed men seized a well-known trader and former Peoples Democratic Party ward chairman, Abubakar Sabi Sise, during a swift overnight invasion that startled residents and exposed the community’s growing insecurity.
The attackers, who arrived in the dead of night, struck with calculated force as they moved into Sise’s compound, firing repeatedly to intimidate anyone who might resist.
Witnesses later recounted how the gunfire tore through the silence of the early hours, leaving families cowering indoors.
The abduction occurred in Boriya, a settlement under the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to multiple local sources, the gunmen launched the raid around midnight, creating panic as they overpowered the household.
Barutem TV reported that the assailants met one of Sise’s sons who had just returned home and compelled him to summon his father and grant them entry.
A community member told our correspondent that the operation was chillingly precise. “They didn’t touch anyone else,” he said.
“They came for one man, took him, and vanished almost immediately. It was clear they already knew who they wanted.”
By daybreak, spent cartridges and even a few live rounds were discovered across the compound, underscoring the intensity of the gunshots residents had heard during the attack.
Locals described the incident as short but terrifying, lasting only minutes before the abductors disappeared into the night.
The development has triggered heightened vigilance across the area. Community vigilantes in Boriya have since launched a coordinated search through nearby routes and farmlands in hopes of tracing the kidnappers’ movement and securing Sise’s release.
A member of the local security team expressed determination, noting that the community would not fold its arms.
“We started combing the area immediately,” he said.
“We are doing everything possible to find him and prevent these criminals from turning our villages into hunting grounds.”
The kidnapping adds to rising concerns about rural security in Kwara State, a subject residents say requires urgent attention from authorities.
