Reports are circulating that Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State, has passed away while receiving medical treatment in London. The news has yet to receive official confirmation.
Obiano’s spokesperson, Tony Nezianya, told DAILY POST he had no knowledge of the alleged death. “I’m not aware of any such development,” Nezianya stated, stressing that nothing had been formally communicated.
Obiano, who led Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, succeeded Peter Obi, the current Labour Party presidential candidate. Born on August 8, 1955, he hailed from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The former governor had also been facing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations involving N4 billion in misappropriated funds. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
