Contrary to recent rumours, former Anambra State governor Willie Obiano is alive and well, according to a former state official. Reports of his death in London have been dismissed as false.
Don Adinuba, who once served as Anambra’s commissioner for information and public enlightenment, confirmed on Friday that Obiano is “healthy, strong and residing in Texas, United States.”
Adinuba criticized the media for spreading unverified reports, stating, “The Nigerian media have been abuzz in the last couple of hours over a rumour that the immediate past Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has passed on in London. This rumour has no basis. Chief Obiano lives in Texas, United States, and not London.”
Obiano, who governed Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, has remained largely out of the public eye since leaving office. The clarification puts to rest speculation that had circulated on social media and some news outlets earlier in the day.
