Oshiomhole has exposed Akpabio-led Senate as rubber stamp – Atiku’s aide

Must read

Media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Paul Ibe, has said that Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s recent remarks have confirmed that the Senate, under the leadership of Godswill Akpabio, operates as a rubber stamp for the presidency.

Ibe said Oshiomhole’s comments revealed that lawmakers do not receive advance copies of bills before they are presented for consideration, thereby raising questions about the credibility of the legislative process.

Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North under the All Progressives Congress (APC), had openly criticised the hurried manner in which bills are passed in the Senate.

The former Edo State governor lamented that several bills were being approved without adequate debate or scrutiny.

He had said: “We are not meant to rubber-stamp, and the way you are reading this, it’ll take a genius to be able to make a point. We are making laws, sir. I want it to be on record that I am troubled by the way in which we are rushing without details.”

Reacting to the statement, Ibe wrote on X: “Senator Adams Oshiomhole unwittingly confirms that the Akpabio-led Senate is indeed a rubber-stamp Senate.

“The alert by the Edo North Senator also further reveals that the Senators do not get advance copies of the draft bills under consideration.”
