Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has confirmed that there was indeed an attempt to impeach the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists on recent U.S. concerns about attacks on Christians in Nigeria and Donald Trump’s warning of possible military action.
He, however, said the move to unseat Akpabio was unsuccessful.
According to him, the impeachment plot stemmed from what he described as a “family misunderstanding.”
“There were attempts, but we didn’t allow that to happen. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen,” Senator Kalu stated.
Speaking on the state of the economy, Kalu admitted that Nigerians are facing hardship but insisted that macroeconomic indicators are beginning to improve.
“As a businessman, I am feeling the pain too. The macro economy is doing well, but the micro economy is not. Foreign investors are coming in. What is left is for this progress to trickle down so people can eat daily and return to farming.”
The lawmaker assured that both President Bola Tinubu and the Senate are working tirelessly to revive the economy and strengthen food security across the country.
