Shock as students beat teacher to death in Oyo

Must read

Soun High School has been thrown into deep shock and sorrow following the unfortunate death of a teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, who lost his life after being violently attacked by his students.

The tragic incident has gripped the community with anger and disbelief as residents demand immediate justice and tougher protection measures for educators.

Witnesses revealed that the confrontation began when Mr. Adegoke attempted to stop a group of students who were gambling inside the classroom.

What started as a disciplinary intervention reportedly spiralled into a violent assault that left him severely injured.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the teacher suffered multiple injuries after the students descended on him.

“The brutality was unimaginable,” a witness said. “He was only doing his job, but the students turned on him with shocking aggression.”

It was gathered that Mr. Adegoke was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite efforts to save him, he later died as a result of the extensive injuries inflicted during the attack.

Reacting to the incident, a coalition of concerned educators described the late teacher as a man who upheld strong values and was committed to instilling discipline in his students.

“Mr. Adegoke was a dedicated professional whose death is both heartbreaking and unacceptable,” the group said. “This is not just an attack on one teacher; it is a direct insult to the entire education sector.”

The educators urged the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and security agencies to ensure that everyone involved is prosecuted without delay. They also insisted that parents of the students responsible must share the blame for failing to guide their children.

Furthermore, the group expressed deep concern over what they described as a growing moral decay among students and inadequate parental guidance.

They stressed that schools across Nigeria need stronger safety protocols, effective moral instruction, and firm enforcement of discipline.

Attempts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the students involved have gone into hiding, a development that has intensified public outrage.

Community members are now calling for swift action from authorities to ensure that such tragedies do not occur again.
