Katsina United denies reports of player attack during NPFL match

Must read

Katsina United Football Club has firmly debunked widespread reports alleging that a supporter attacked and slit the throat of a Barau FC player during their Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) clash on Saturday.

In an official statement released late yesterday, the club described the trending story as “misleading, unrealistic, and entirely baseless,” insisting that no supporter invaded the pitch throughout the duration of the match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

The club expressed deep disappointment over what it called a “mischievous and unverified publication” that suggested chaos at the stadium and claimed a player had been “slaughtered.”

According to Katsina United, none of these allegations reflect the events that took place.

“The publication in question made several false claims,” the statement read. “At no point during the entire duration of the match did any supporter gain access to the main pitch.

“The game, although tense due to contentious officiating decisions that understandably frustrated supporters, was managed within the confines of order and security.”

Katsina United also condemned the media outlet responsible for spreading the report, stressing that such journalism undermines not only the club’s image but also the progress of football development in Katsina State and Nigeria at large.

The club further indicated displeasure at Barau FC, accusing them of amplifying a “false narrative” surrounding the incident.

Katsina United noted that it would leave the matter to the League Management Body for investigation and appropriate action.

“We advise the publishers of this misleading report to retract their story and issue a public apology immediately,” the club warned, adding that failure to comply may lead to legal action.

As the controversy continues to unfold, football fans across various platforms remain divided, with some calling for a full investigation while others demand clearer communication from match officials and league administrators.
