FG calls for calm as diplomatic tension rises between Nigeria, U.S.

Must read

The Federal Government has urged citizens to remain composed amid growing diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and the United States, assuring the public that ongoing engagements are being handled with caution and confidence.

Information and National Orientation Minister, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal during an official visit, noting that the government was closely monitoring events and working to prevent further escalation.

He stressed that panic or misinformation could worsen the situation and urged Nigerians to trust ongoing diplomatic efforts.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to stabilising the nation and protecting its relationship with global partners.

“President Tinubu has the capacity and experience to safeguard Nigeria’s interests and to repair any strain that may emerge in our dealings with the United States,” Idris stated.

“We ask Nigerians to stay calm and allow the diplomatic channels to run their course.”

The minister’s reassurance came while he was in Jigawa on another assignment, where he joined key political and youth stakeholders.

His visit coincided with the North West 2025 Youth Pally and a presentation detailing the achievements of President Tinubu’s two years in office.

Idris added that the government was “fully engaged” and would continue to update the public as more information becomes available.

Furthermore, he emphasised the need for unity during sensitive diplomatic moments, noting that “national stability always comes first.”

The Federal Ministry of Information said it would continue to provide transparent communication to prevent the spread of speculation or fear.
