Residents protest killing of 22-year-old, demand justice

Must read

Members of Amangwo community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State on Friday stormed the council headquarters in Isiala Oboro, demanding justice for a 22-year-old youth, Solomon Ikokwu, allegedly murdered by members of a disbanded local security outfit.

The protest followed days after the victim’s mother, Mrs. Onyekachi Ikokwu, appealed to authorities to apprehend and prosecute those behind her son’s killing.

Her outcry led to the arrest of some suspects, who were later detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia, for their alleged involvement in the murder.

During the protest, the aggrieved villagers gathered at the council secretariat along the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road, chanting songs of sorrow and accusing the killers of mutilating the deceased’s body.

They alleged that the attackers decapitated the young man, cut off his hand, and buried his remains in a shallow grave near a stream.

One of the protesters, who identified himself as Brother Kent, said the matter should not be swept under the carpet, insisting that justice must prevail.

“We want justice for Solomon. We want his head and body parts recovered,” the community members were seen shouting.

The protesters also disclosed that the case had been reported to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation.
