Hundreds of Islamic groups and their members on Saturday took to the streets of Kano to protest against recent comments by United States President, Donald Trump regarding the security situation in Nigeria.
The protesters, who gathered in large numbers, accused the American leader of attempting to interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs following his claim of a so-called Christian genocide in the country.
They marched through major streets, chanting slogans and carrying placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources.”
Trump had recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians, warning that the United States military might intervene if the Nigerian government failed to stop the killings.
However, the Nigerian government has dismissed Trump’s claims as false, insisting there is no targeted genocide against Christians or any religious group in the country.
